The computer model was created with the 3D graphics program, Rhino for Mac. The cross section is a concave triangle (hypocycloid) which rotates just 120 degrees as it makes a complete circuit of the path, so when it gets back to the beginning, each side runs into the next one. Tracing the path with your finger, it would take three trips around the knot to get back to the exact starting point. This copy of the model was printed by Shapeways.com
