Scope & Aims

Eleventh Hour Literary wants to be known as a premier literary journal celebrating the perseverance of dedicated creative writers. As such, we have unique criteria for submission—we only want to see work that has been rejected at least ten times from other literary organizations.

The writer who has had at least ten rejections has sat with the piece for a considerable length of time. She or he has faith in the quality of the work, and instead of giving up, has made revisions based on rejection feedback and has considered carefully the kind of venue in which to publish. Most of all, she or he has perseverance. To even qualify for consideration in Eleventh Hour, the writer must have the gumption to submit, and submit regularly, to the literary community and to not let failure deter her or him.

Eleventh Hour Literary will accept submissions from anyone, including Binghamton-University affiliate writers, who are otherwise barred from submitting to Harpur Palate, the University’s current literary journal. This opens a venue to those Binghamton University students, employees, alumni, and donors who are looking for a home for their “well-loved, well-worn” narratives.
