Harpur Palate: a Literary Journal
Volume 2, Number 2 (2002)
The final issue for Harpur Palate’s second volume. This issue contains Harpur Palate’s second Milton Kessler Memorial Award for poetry, and continues with more from Writing by Degrees; containing poems by B. H. Fairchild, John Potch, and Lydia Davis. Short stories in this issue follow a lumber worker as he changes identity in Scott Wolven’s “Controlled Burn”, as well as a couple that finds challenges when one discovers a new hobby in Kevin Frazier’s “Starlight.” In regards to poems, Sheree Renée Thomas’ “Amputation Dream” portrays life after amputation, Melinda Tromara Kirstein’s “As If” laments the effects of cancer, and “Self-Discovery” by Phillip S. Mandel is as obtuse as it is self-explanatory.
