Harpur Palate: a Literary Journal

Harpur Palate: a Literary Journal

Volume 3, Number 1 (2003)

Harpur Palate’s third volume begins with the announced departure of its original fiction editor, Toiya Kristen Finley, who says “Before I really start to sound like a dirge, I'd just like to thank all of the reader -past and present- for taking the time out of your already busy live , working so hard through the slush pile , and adding your voices to the debates. Thanks to all of you-all THREE of you-for reading these little editorial thingies.” Volume Three’s first issue also contains its first Harpur Palate Translation Prize. A young girl copes in her storm-torn town by scavenging pieces of the life she left behind in Aimee Parkinson’s “Collecting”, a grandfather reveals to his grandson the cause of their grandma’s death in Richard Jordan’s “One Way to Go”, and get a peek at how an off-the-books doctor handles a small-town drug epidemic in Hugo Award winner Elizabeth Bear’s novel excerpt “Hammered.”
