Abstract
In this essay Findlay summarizes his position that the Unwritten Doctrines of Plato, as outlined by Proclus, are essential for understanding the ontological theories of Plato's major dialogues.

J. N. Findlay presented “Plato’s Unwritten Dialectic of the One and the Great and Small” at the meeting of Society for Ancient Greek Philosophy with the Society for the Study of Islamic Philosophy and Science in October 1983.. Findlay published Plato: the Written and Unwritten Doctrines in 1974; it was reprinted in 2013. This paper summarizes his findings in that book.
